Skiff Fishing Orlando
My skiff is a Mitzi 17, powered by a 60 HP Yamaha four stroke outboard. I call the boat Spotted Tail. That's it above, son Maxx about to boat a redfish for his angler. This is my main fishing boat, whether I'm on the lagoon, ocean, or gulf. It is an awesome little boat. All my fishermen love it. During the warmer months it has a MinnKota 74 mounted on the bow. I push it with a 21' Stiffy carbon fiber pole. It carries all required USCG safety gear.
When fishing in the lagoons standard procedure is for me to silently pole the skiff while we hunt for, stalk, and cast to fish. When there are lots of fish around there's very little running. When the fishing is slow we run more to check more spots.
When I use the boat in the ocean there's usually quite a bit of running as we search for fish, signs of fish, or flotsam that might hold fish. Even in the ocean we usually try to sight fish.
From this vessel we've caught redfish, tarpon, snook, permit, bonefish, dolphin (mahi mahi), king and Spanish mackerel, cobia, the list goes on and on. It is way more than adequate for 90 percent of what it's asked to do.
Other Equipment
There is always a cooler on board on skiff trips. There is always a phone and first aid kit on board.
I supply all fishing tackle (either fly or spin), flies, lures, leaders, bait, fishing licenses, permits, etc. If you prefer a revolving spool reel you'll have to bring that yourself.
The angler is responsible for his own foul weather gear, and personal refreshments. I don't feed you, you don't feed me.
