Orlando Ocean Fishing
Fishing off the beaches gives you your best chance for an epic encounter. Tarpon, cobia, tripletail, king mackerel, giant jack crevalle, blacktip and other sharks, it's a long and glorious list.
We usually use spinning tackle for this fishing, although fly tackle does have its place. Frequently we use bait, most often menhaden or mullet netted right where we fish. The bait pods are why the fish are there!
Since I have a 17 foot boat, we must have good weather to attempt to fish the sea. I launch both at Port Canaveral and near Ponce Inlet.
Usually the drill is to ride with purpose, looking for breaking fish, schools of fish, schools of bait, weed lines, color breaks, diiving birds, etc. When it's good it is as good as any fishing any place. When it's bad it's still a nice day on the water, but the ocean looks biologically dead. Hey, it happens. Sometimes you encounter large schools of big tarpon or crevalle like the one above. Sometimes it's just bluefish and ladyfish. Some days it's almost nothing at all. You just never know. It's still always fishing, and still always fun!
